Scoping the Project

The Smart Entryphone is designed to deliver a seamless and intuitive experience for users, ensuring secure and frictionless building access. Built to accommodate a diverse audience, it prioritizes ease of use, accessibility, and integration with the broader smart building ecosystem. Whether for residents, guests, or service personnel, the Entryphone enhances convenience through real-time authentication, touchless entry options, and seamless connectivity with the Smart App and Web-based PMS. By streamlining interactions, it not only improves security but also enriches the overall user experience within the smart living environment.

Step 1 - Requirement Gathering

Defining the Essential Features

At the outset of the Entryphone MVP development, my primary focus was on understanding the core requirements that would shape the product. Given the complexity of smart building ecosystems, it was crucial to ensure that the MVP would deliver real value while remaining scalable and adaptable for future enhancements.

To achieve this, I conducted requirement gathering sessions, analyzing how the Entryphone would integrate within the broader Smart Living Ecosystem. This involved evaluating market trends, competitive solutions, and technological capabilities to identify the essential features that needed to be prioritized.

A key part of the process was determining who the primary users were and what their needs entailed. From residents and visitors to concierge teams and property managers, each user type required a different level of interaction with the system. With this in mind, I outlined the MVP scope around the core functionalities that would provide immediate impact, including:

  • Seamless Access Control – Unique codes for residents, guests, and service providers, with real-time granting and revoking via the Resident App.
  • Directory Look-up & Call Function – Ensures seamless access and management for residents and staff, allowing instant lookups and one-click direct calls for streamlined communication.
  • Concierge Communication – Enabling direct video and voice calls for visitor verification and support.
  • Delivery & Service Coordination – Allowing couriers and food delivery personnel to confirm orders and notify residents upon successful entry.

By strategically scoping the MVP, I ensured that the Entryphone was positioned as a key component of the smart building ecosystem, balancing usability, security, and convenience. This approach allowed for a strong go-to-market strategy, where the product could be refined and expanded based on real-world usage and feedback.

From Concept to Reality

Step 2 - Iteration of the MVP

  • Directory Listing & Call Function

    A comprehensive directory of all individuals within the property, enabling quick and efficient search functionality for seamless access and management. Residents can be looked up instantly, and a call can be placed directly by clicking their name.

  • Call Concierge

    Enables direct communication with the Concierge through video or voice call, allowing seamless interaction. The Concierge can verify the identity of the person via the video call function and manage access control in real time through the PMS, ensuring secure and efficient property entry.

  • Need Help

    Contextual screen prompts provide step-by-step guidance, helping users navigate the interface seamlessly. These prompts anticipate potential user needs and scenarios, ensuring a smooth and intuitive experience, even in complex workflows.

  • Package Scan for Courier

    The system enables couriers and food delivery services to verify package or order details, ensuring accurate and secure deliveries to building occupants. Once a unique access code is used for a delivery service, the requesting resident receives a real-time notification on the Resident App, keeping them informed of the update.

  • PIN Access

    Users can grant access through a unique code, whether for themselves, a service provider, or a visitor, ensuring secure and seamless entry management. Through their Resident App, they can manage access in real time, granting or revoking permissions as needed.

  • Directions

    The Entryphone offers a unique wayfinding service, assisting users—whether first-time visitors or those needing guidance—with directions to their destination within the property.
